Luke. who is credited for writing the third Gospel and Acts, was known as 'the beloved physician' (Col 4:14). He was a companion and fellow worker with Paul.
This book, the longest of the Gospels, was written principally for the Greeks. Its emphasis is upon the perfect humanity of Christ, whom he presents as the Son of man, the human-devine Person, and whose genealogy the book traces to Adam. Luke’s narrative of the birth and infancy of the Lord is from the point of view of the virgin mother. He alone tells of Christ's boyhood and reveals more of His prayer life than the others. The parables found in the Gospel show Christ's concern for the lost humanity. In the accounts of certain miracle, the trained observation of a physician is evident.
Luke may be divided as follows:
- Introduction. -- 1:1-4
- The Birth, Baptism, Geneology, and Temptation of Christ. --1:5-4:13
- Annoucing Birth of John the Baptist -- 1:5-25
- Annoucing Birth of Jesus -- 1:26-33
- Jesus' Conception -- 1:34-56
- Birth of John the Baptist --1:57-80
- Birth of Jesus -- 2:1-38
- Growth of Jesus -- 2:39-52
- Ministry of John the Baptist --3:1-20
- Baptisim of Jesus -- 3:21-22
- Genealogy of Mary, (the seed) -- 3:23-38
- Temptation of Jesus -- 4:1-13
- The Public Ministry Of Jesus to the Triumphal Entry -- 4:14-19:27
- The Rejection of Christ and His Death -- 19:28-23:56
- Jesus' Resurrection, Commision to the Dissiples, and Ascention -- 24:1-53
Luke 1:1-4
1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

Luke 1:26-33
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Luke 3:21-22
21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
